T - Talk

This morning while I was brushing Tressa's hair, she says to me,
"Does hair have bones?"
"Bows?"
"No, BONES."
"No, hair does not have bones."
"So there's no such thing as hair-bones."
"Right." ☺

Then she says,
"Do dinosaurs like underwear?"
"What?  To eat or to wear?"
"To wear."
"I don't think anyone made big enough underwear for them."
"Noooo!  The cavemen's underwear.  But it was small on them."
"Oh.  You're silly!"
Tressa giggles.  ☺

Note to self:

I am a pilgrim, a wanderer in a foreign place.  This is not my home.  My citizenship is in Heaven.

"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me.  In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you.  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.  You know the way to the place where I am going."  John 14:1-4

Going medieval with the fifth graders...

On Friday the fifth grade class held a medieval feast.  The kids each gave mini-speeches that explained the ins and outs of a medieval feast.   Fascinating!
Meghan was the court jester.
She had a slew of jokes.  Here's a sample of the best:

Who invented King Arthur's round table?  Sir Cumference.
What is Camelot?  A place where people parked their camels in the middle ages.
Why did the king go to the dentist?  To get his tooth crowned.

Oh how we missed thee, backyard!

Playing with the 'doh.

A girly-girl always wears her tiara.

Singers and standards Swingers and standers.

Evan has freakishly strong hands for a 7-year-old.

Very little genetic variation between these two handsome fellas.

Lookin' Fiiiiiiiiine

It's amazing his hair looks as good as it does.... considering how he fought tooth and nail the whole time he was in the stylist's chair!  I had to pay extra for all the trouble!  Crazy kid.  When he got his last cut six months ago he was as cool as a cucumber.
What gives, little dude?
Who -- me??

Brotherly Love

Meghan and I often fight over who gets to hold Hayden while he drinks his milk.  This time Meghan and I were busy with her Montenegro (aka Montemegro, aka Meganegro) project.  Evan saw his opportunity and jumped on it.  And he let Tressa join them because he's sweet like that.

Craig really should take down our Christmas wreath...

...but Hayden and I will miss seeing this frequent little visitor!

Older and Wiser!

We celebrated my birthday at the Cheesecake Factory.  The kids loved it so much that they each want to celebrate their birthday there too!

Here we are on our way out... just moments before several of us slipped into a cheesecake coma.

Stormageddon 2010

Oh the weather outside is frightful!
But in here, it's so delightful.

Since we've no place to go,
LET IT SNOW! LET IT SNOW! LET IT SNOW!
The reading on our deck is a mere 25 inches, but the official reading at Dulles Airport was 32.4 inches!
Our little snowstorm has been called Stormageddon and Snowpocalypse, but I think the official title is simply "Blizzard of 2010".  And to add insult to injury, there's another foot of snow in the forecast for Tuesday!  Enough already!

4-year-olds say the cutest things...

This morning Tressa was playing with this Leap Frog recording thingy and it said: "after the beep, say the longest word you know".  I was curious to see what she would say... and without skipping a beat she says, "anti-disestablishment" and then she trailed off. HOW CUTE! It was totally out of the blue. She must have been trying to say, "anti-disestablishmentarianism" which we had told Meghan some time ago was the word with the most syllables. I tell you, that girl is always listening and remembering.

A couple weeks ago I was singing, "You're so cute, you probably think this song is about you, you're so cute, so cute," etc. So Tressa looked at me, arms akimbo, and said, "is that song about me?" It was very sweet (and cute of course!)  I had forgotten all about this incident until a week later when we were in the van and "You're So Vain" (by Carly Simon) came on the radio. As soon as she heard the chorus, Tressa piped up, "Mom! This is where you got the "you're so cute song" from!"

The NERVE of some salesmen!

I just got off the phone with a svc manager from our heating/ac service. He was trying to get me signed up for a plumbing contract....
"I have to talk to my husband about that."
"Is he at work right now?"
"yes, he's at work and he's out of town until Friday night"
"oh. well just imagine if something went wrong with your plumbing. a pipe sprung a leak. and you picked a plumber out of the phone book... and Joe the Plumber shows up!"
This apparent Obama-kool-aid-drinker starts chuckling, expecting me to join in.
"I like Joe the Plumber. That'd be great if he showed up."
"oh. um okay. so you go ahead and talk to your husband. and give us a call if we can do anything for you.  Click."
